GETTING TO OOTY

The Coimbatore airport is the closest to the Ooty. It takes 3.1/2 hours by road to reachOoty. There are flights into Coimbatore from Singapore, Sharjah, Colombo and most parts of India including Mumbai (Air Deccan, Indian Airlines,Jet and Go Air), Chennai ( Air Deccan, Paramount, Indian Airlines and Jet Airways) and Bangalore.

BY ROAD

Ooty is well connected by good roads. It is 535 km from Chennai (via Salem), 89 km from Coimbatore, 18 km from Coonoor (via Gudalur), 155 km from Mysore, 187 km from Calicut, 290 km from Bangalore, 281 km from Kochi (via Coimbatore and Palakkad), 236 km from Kodaikanal (via Coimbatore and Palani). There is a regular bus service from Bangalore, Mysore, Coimbatore, Calicut, Kanyakumari, Tanjavur, Tirupati and Cochin. Buses ply regularly to Mudhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Kotagiri, Coonoor and Doddabeta.

BY RAIL

Ooty has a railwasy station of its own which is connected by meter gauge tracks to Mettupalayam, which is turn connected to Coimbatore and Chennai.

GETTING TO COONOOR

Nearest airport – Coimbatore (71 kms).

BY RAIL

The nearest station is at Coonoor and the nearest broad gauge railhead is at Mettupalam (34kms). The toy train (Mettupalayam-Udhgamandalam Passenger ) can be taken from Mettupalayam station (leaves at 7.10 am) to the Coonoor railway station (arrives at 10.30am).

BY ROAD

Coonoor lies also on the Nagapattinam – Mysore NH Road. The nearest bus stand is Mettupalayam and Ooty which can be reached either from Bangalore via Ooty or from Coimbatore via Mettupalayam. Frequent buses plying from all overTamil Naduand neighbouring states.

The nearest railway stations are the Kodai Road Railway Station (80-km) and the Palani Railway Station (64-km).

BY ROAD

Kodaikanal is connected by road with Chennai (520-km), Ooty (264-km), Trichy (197-km), Coimbatore (175-km), Kumili (160-km), and Madurai(120-km). Regular bus services are available from Madurai, Palani, Kodaikanal Road, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruchirapalli, Kumuli (Thekkady) and Coimbatore. Additional buses ply during the season. Taxis and vans are available for local transportation. There are no auto-rickshaws in Kodaikanal.

GETTING TO MYSORE

BY AIR

The nearest airport to Mysore is Bangalore (139 km). All the domestic airlines in the country operate their flights to Bangalore from all the major cities in the country. Some international airlines too have flights to Bangalore. Bangalore is to have an international airport shortly.

BY RAIL

Mysore is connected with a number of trains to Bangalore. The super fast luxury train the Shatabdi Express connects Mysore to Madras. The quickest and most comfortable way to reach Mysore is via Bangalore.

BY ROAD

Mysore is 139kms to the south west of Bangalore. The state highway that connects these two cities is very well maintained. Travelling from Bangalore to Mysore by road is a pleasant experience and will take about 3hrs. The Karnataka Road Transport Corporation has excellent bus service to Mysore. There are ordinary buses, semi-luxury buses and luxury buses operated by the Government of Karnataka. Every half an hour there is a non-stop bus to Mysore from Bangalore Bus Station. Corporations of other states and private tour operators have buses plying to Mysore as well. All these facilities have made Mysore extremely accessible by road.

Kabini does not have an airport, and the nearest airport is Bangalore, at a distance of 173 kms from Kabini.

BY RAIL

Kabini does not have a train station, and the nearest station is Mysore, at a distance of 30 kms from Kabini.

BY ROAD

If you are travelling from Bangalore take the Mysore Highway to reach Ramnagaram. Continue travelling along the highway to reach Maddur, Mandya and Srirangapatna respectively. Travelling from Mysore take rights turn towards Maananthavaadii. 3 kilometers from Hand Post Circle which will be our next stop after Maananthavaadii, turn left towards Kabini Dam and reach Beechanahalli Village. After the village you will come across Bheeramballi village before your each at Kabini finally!

Kozhikode is around 245 kilometers from Kabini but it is better to avoid the route due to bad road conditions. Kabini offers luxurious hotels and many forest guest houses.
